Description

The New Testament, in this bilingual edition, contains the word of God as revealed by the very Word Himself during His incarnation, as well as many incidents of His life, which the Holy Spirit deemed necessary for the salvation of humanity. For as the apostle John testifies, "There are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written" (John 21:25). With great love, our Church, as well as other organizations, have ensured that this timeless and ever-new word is continually published, for the glory of God and the spiritual benefit of the faithful.

With much love, the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi continues to contribute to the publication of the timeless and always relevant word, to glorify the wisdom of God and to spiritually benefit the faithful of Orthodoxy.

The Holy Monastery, mindful of the diligence demonstrated during Byzantine times, where the word of God was often adorned with illustrated forms of the holy Apostles and other representations, along with headings and titles, has decided to proceed with the publication of a compact-sized New Testament embellished with the illustrated forms and titles of the most significant manuscripts donated to the Monastery by Emperor John VI Kantakouzenos (14th century) and from the Gospel (11th century) donated to it by the Palaiologos dynasty's Andronikos II.

The New Testament is not a book of mere learning. According to St. Symeon the New Theologian, the Holy Scriptures, especially the New Testament, constitute an inexhaustible treasury, sealed; and the key by which we can unlock it is the observance of God's commandments. As one struggles to keep God's commandments, one delves deeper into the spirit and meanings of the Holy Scriptures. The study of God's word, accompanied by a practice consistent with the Tradition of the Fathers of our Church, draws the Holy Spirit to transmit His sanctifying energy, which transforms the person and makes them a true participant, a "partaker of divine nature" (2 Peter 1:3).
